Workout Differences

The husband and I have had different philosophies on our cardio workouts. I have been doing about 20 solid minutes on the elliptical, and he has been doing a 2.5 mile run/walk combo around our neighborhood.

Sunday, I requested to join the husband on his run. After about 2 minutes of running, I thought for sure that I would not make it. It's quite different "out in the elements" and without my water, TV and fan! For some reason, running is also more difficult for me than the elliptical, even though I think you burn more calories on the elliptical. I think it's all the pounding on the ground, rather than the comfy motion on the elliptical. Anyways, I DID make it, and was very proud of myself.

Last night, the husband decided to do the elliptical while I was working out. After about 6 minutes on it, he thought for sure he would not make it through the full workout he'd programmed. I told him to just do it like he did on his run/walk and to slow it down from time to time to emulate walking. He made it through 45 minutes, which impressed the hell outta both of us.

I just thought it was funny how we each had our "normal" workout and how difficult we felt the other one was. It just goes to show you that no matter how you do it, cardio sucks!

Cardio does suck, unless you have that great goal in mind. For example, last night Sam and I walked (cardio) from her place to a friend of ours who was cooking dinner (yummy homemade, French cooking). It was a completely uphill walk of a little over 1.5 miles. Believe me, when we got to the top of the hill, and popped that cork on the wine we agreed that it was ALL worth it!
